Gärdet and media

A walk in the name of cinema, radio and tv

A tour about media and film - and some about a French-imported king! In Sweden, television is financed by licenses and governmental support. There are no advertisements in these public service-channels. Besides this, though, there are several commercial channels. Radio functions in the same way – publicly financed public service-channels together with commercial ones. Just some hundred meters away from the Swedish Radio and Television we find the Swedish Film Institute. During this tour we see the large media houses and discuss media and film. We will learn more about the film director Ingmar Bergman, artist Greta Garbo and also journalists acting behind the scene. While at the area Gärdet, we take a look at the large field, where the French born king Jean Baptiste Bernadotte held his military exercises during the 19th century. We end by seeing the Diplomatic area.

Starting point: The Swedish Film Institute, Gärdet, Borgvägen 1
Finish: Djurgårdsbron (Bridge leading to Djurgården)
